Farm House Retreat, Luxor
This beautiful house was built in the Nubian style by Moustapha Awad. It is made from over 90,000 mudbricks, together with natural woods and desert stone.
It is the perfect retreat for anyone wanting a place of peace and quiet that is also close to ancient history. Here you can write, paint, read and relax on a real Egyptian farm that is just 15 minutes away from the heart of Luxor – or Thebes, as it was known.
You can look from your bedroom window across the Nile to the West Bank, with its pyramid mountain, Dehenet, which oversees the Valley of the Kings, the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut and other legacies of this extraordinary civilization.
Transport from the farm to the sacred sites is easy to arrange – or the bazaar in Luxor if you need to remember there is another world outside.
You can also take a Nile Cruise to Aswan and back, or a day trip to Denderah and Abydos – details of which you will find under the Sacred Sites link
The house is extremely comfortable, with 3 double bedrooms upstairs, where there is also a large verandah space to use for meditation, reading, drawing, relaxing or whatever you feel like.
There is a big and beautiful open-plan living/dining/kitchen area downstairs, where you can eat, have a Turkish coffee, talk or plan. It is cool and light.
The bathroom has a shower set in a sunken bath and there is always hot water on demand.
Marwa, Moustapha’s lovely wife, is a wonderful cook, and she will come every day to make dinner for you, Egyptian-style, if you like. Or she will bring the food that you would like to cook for yourself. Fresh salad, fruit, eggs and milk from the farm.
Flights to Luxor leave from many UK airports, and travel to Cairo is a simple matter either by train or air.
