The Interfaith Foundation
The Foundation was birthed in New York by Rabbi Joseph Gelberman, with the support of other religious leaders and those wishing to explore beyond the boundaries of their own faith. The US training was adapted by Miranda Holden and brought to the UK in 1996.
There are around 500 ordained Interfaith ministers throughout Gt Britain and Ireland. Through our ministry we seek to fill a growing spiritual gap in modern society by supporting people who wish to enquire more deeply – perhaps into their own spiritual tradition, or simply into their own connection to their soul.
We recognise the awakening of an inclusive global spirituality both in ourselves and in the world, and we are trained to serve all people of all faiths and none, through listening deeply with the heart.
Our help is most often sought by:
- Those who are seeking spiritual connection and expression, yet feel uncomfortable with conventional religion (demonstrated by surveys to be a majority of the UK population)
- People from different religious backgrounds who wish to honour more than one faith tradition (in marriage or child blessing ceremony, for instance).
- Those struggling with issues they find difficult to raise within their faith (for example, questioning of sexuality).
This help is offered through short courses, listening, retreats, meditation, healing, inner guidance prayer and conducting ceremonies and services that mark both the major and minor passages through life.
We, as ministers, create and lead ceremonies uniquely tailored to your spiritual beliefs and values. They include weddings, civil partnerships, handfastings, funerals, rites of passage, baby namings, blessings and healing services.
These ceremonies can be conducted just about anywhere – inside, or out in nature. They may include readings, rituals and song that are most meaningful for you. We work with you to create a very personal ceremony to mark the occasion.
We also offer spiritual counselling to help you find your connection to your soul - or whatever you choose to call the Power that is greater than your personal self. There are many paths that ultimately lead to the One Truth, but sometimes it feels as if our lantern has grown dim and we cannot see our way clearly. Spiritual counselling can help and support you to find your direction.
