Deep Memory Process – Ghosts in our Genes
The clues to our past are everywhere in this current lifetime. They are pointers to the way that can lead to a deeper connection with your heart and soul.
Deep Memory Process was developed by a Jungian analyst – Dr Roger Woolger – and grew from his work with past life regression. Working with your soul, rather than the attention seeking ego, brings about your own ‘knowing’ – different from something that you have ‘learned’. The soul is ever present, like a silent passenger that is ‘behind and above’ us, waiting to connect and inspire our everyday selves.
I have been practicing for over 20 years combining DMP with my other therapeutic skills and I know that it works.
“The reason for doing inner work is not only to resolve conflict and psychological distress, but also to find within ourselves a deep source of renewal, strength, and wisdom.
It’s not too difficult to get the skeletons out of the closet with people, but to get the gold out is a different matter. That is therapy – the Art of finding the gold of the spirit.”
– Robert A. Johnson
How do we find this gold?
How does the soul draw attention to what needs to be addressed?
Some of the signals may include:
- Shame, sadness, hypersensitivity, breathing problems
- Claustrophobia, agoraphobia, powerlessness
- Intense, difficult relationships
- Irrational fears and phobias – OCD
- Feeling stuck, blocked or ‘not belonging’
- Physical symptoms – birthmarks
- Feelings of not wanting to be here and the sense that you are a round peg in a square hole
- Anything that makes you say “I don’t know why, but I always ……”
Anything that is challenging for you is potentially a prod to pay attention to unfinished business and an invitation to make a deeper connection to that Higher aspect of yourself that ‘knows’. Mostly, we pay no attention to the signals until we crash into an extreme situation.
The body we inhabit is encoded – through its DNA – with ancestral patterns and memories of intense previous experiences. These are not necessarily earth shattering dramas such as spectacular deaths – or lives. The devil is often in the detail, and any other lifetime recall will provide the theme that the soul needs to work through in the present. We must clear the decks before we can proceed into a more positive and connected future.
Power, trust, health, wealth, boundaries, commitments, honesty, sexuality, family issues, loyalty – there are hundreds of different themes and different shades of each one. Our particular theme will be prompted by the people, places and events in our lives. Like unvisited web sites, when opened they bring a new soul-based perspective and ultimately knowing that there is a higher dimension of our selves that is waiting to communicate.
Recognising how today’s problems have their roots in yesterday liberates us from the past ad expands our understandings.
“This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture.
Still treat each guest honorably,
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.”– Rumi
